As President of Skipping Stone Japan, Hiroshi Okuyama is responsible for leading the company’s Japan operations, including strategic consulting, market assessments, retail and wholesale electric and gas, LNG, company start-ups, international investment advisory and innovation programs, as well as leveraging his extensive knowledge and relationships in Japan to assist international trading clients entering the Japan energy markets.
During Hiroshi’s 35 years of experience in global commodities trading and risk management, he has developed extensive relationships in the US, Southeast Asia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and other global commodity trading hubs. In his early days as a futures account executive, he moved to New York, perfected his English, earned his licenses, and learned how to trade on the commodity exchange floor in New York. His success led to positions of increasing responsibility and ultimately to the Presidency of Unicom International and US-Japan joint venture proprietary trading firms with trading operations in New York, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.
His journey over the years from the trading floor to President entailed changing and adapting strategies to fit the evolving commodities markets. During this time, he regularly modified operations in order to comply with new regulations and tighter oversight for risk management, accounting and reporting.
Upon his return to Japan in multiple leadership roles with Nissan Securities, he helped develop their international business relationships, assisted with corporate strategies, hired and trained personnel, and has immersed himself in Japan’s new liberalized energy trading markets.
